Whilst at Squirrels your child will be allocated a Key Person who has the lead responsibility and is your key contact too.
If you have any concerns about things that may affect your child, such as possible illness, an upset or a bad night’s sleep, please let this member of staff know when you drop your child off.
This helps us to understand their needs better and so ensure they are happy and settled in the day.
Likewise, when you collect them we will tell you what kind of day they have had – how much sleep, what they’ve eaten, what activities they’ve done and so on.
More formally, Squirrels staff are trained to carefully observe children. During these observations we can see how each child grows and develops their skills such as crawling, walking, talking and socialising with other children and what interests them. By knowing these things we can plan appropriately for your child. As children progress, records are kept to verify children’s achievements. These records are freely available for you to see. The learning journal is a record of your child’s individual learning and developmental journey. It is completed by the Key Person on a regular basis with input from parents as often as possible.
You will be invited to meet with your child’s Key Person to discuss your child’s progress, in order to inform the report and to ensure good partnership with you. The report will be given to you for you to include in your child’s health record and it can contribute to the development check carried out by the Health Visitor. By working in this way we hope to celebrate your child’s achievements and to be able to provide support or guidance if required.
